Finding our stride

It's an exciting time at Civia.  The last couple years have flown by and we find ourselves in the middle of our second selling season.

As we look ahead to 2010, we're excited about the direction the brand is heading and the product we're about to introduce.  When we started out, our vision was to focus on higher end commuting and transportation bicycles, doing the things we all wanted to see, but none of the other mass-market brands were able or willing to do.  Since then, we've realized that the demand for this type of innovative, functional and aesthetically appealing product spans many price points, not just the high end.  We've also seen the onset of the recession and a softening of the high end market.

Bryant Crushed Limestone TrailThrough all of this, we've looked ahead to where we want our product and price points to be for 2010.  We see ourselves continuing to lead with best-in-class commuting and transportation product at price points that are slightly below where the Hyland and Loring had been priced at.  We also see new models coming out based off of our existing bikes that keep the same function with similar aesthetics but reach a lower price point.  This will open Civia up to a whole new group of cyclists.

To that end, we have lowered current prices on Hylands and Lorings to roughly where pricing will be in 2010.  This means for the time being, there are screaming deals to be had as you're getting an extra couple hundred dollars worth of bike, while we sell through our 2009 inventory at 2010's lower prices.  These updated prices are listed on our website under each bike's respective page.

Throughout all of this, our commitment to leading commuting and transportation remains the same.  We're simply finding our way and expanding our influence in an increasingly congested segment of the market.

It's been our pleasure serving your needs thus far and we look forward to a broader product selection with more price points in 2010.  See you on the road!

NYC Bike Parking Law Starts Today...
Wed, Nov 11 2009 10:35 am Written by: PJ Ramstack

Starting today a law goes into place that will hopefully allow more NYC bicycle commuters a safe haven for their bikes while they are at work.
Details were a little fuzzy but the gist of it is that the tenant of a building can submit a request to the building manager or owner requesting a particular number of bikes be allowed into their section of the building.
The owner or manager then has an opportunity to file for an exception due to safety hazards or claim there is adequate alternative parking facilities available.
To be clear this new law is specific to business buildings and not residential but hopefully this will help push the topic in that direction.
It is hard to have a discussion about bicycle transportation in NYC without talking about the issue of theft. If the bike parking problem could be properly addressed I think the possibilities for this city would be wide open. I will be watching this story over the next months and years and will be very interested in how it turns out.
