Burton Avery Brand Manager
I ride my bicycle at every chance I get.
I’m a bicycle commuter, industrial designer, dad, and husband. Let me break that down:
I rack up a lot of miles biking to work, every day. Yet, as every regular commuter knows, transportation by bike is not about the miles or time on the bike. It’s about everyday actions defining who you are—giving you the opportunity to live what you value.
As brand manager for Civia, I work to improve and refine the transportation-by-bicycle experience. I am responsible for how Civia products look, but also for listening to riders’ wants, needs, and dreams. I translate all of that into tools Civia’s riders can use everyday.
I have two sons who keep me grounded. They have introduced and reintroduced me to balance bikes, 16” wheels, long-tail bicycles and the fun of bakfiet [cargo bike] rides with a down comforter on brisk Minnesota mornings.
And then there is my wife: we’ve had our share of joy and also our time “in the pines” for over twenty years. We have been together through Minnesota winters, Chicago springs, rural Indiana summers, costal Carolina falls and back again. She is always game for the request “Can we ride there?”
